The recently opened Packery Channel runs from the Intracoastal Waterway near the JFK Causeway to the Gulf Of Mexico. Reopened to allow a fresh flow of water to this portion of the Upper Laguna Madre and as an additional channel to the Gulf of Mexico for recreational boaters from Padre Island, Packery Channel is the dividing line between Mustang Island and Padre Island. It long serpentine path provides a number of angling possibilities from its jetties at the Gulf opening all the way back into the flats off its northwest end.
