The boat ramp in LaBonte Park gives direct access to the Nueces River below the dam that divides fresh water and saltwater. Heading east down the river for several miles, this protected river run comes out in the west end of Nueces Bay. It is not a lot closer than launching at the other end of the bay, but eliminates the open water run and minimizes running through shallow reefs. The parking area is unpatrolled and leaving valuables behind is highly discouraged.
