Opened as a pass to the Gulf of Mexico from Corpus Christi Bay in the early 1970's. The short jetty's built to sustain it at the north end of Mustang Island State Park were too short to keep it from silting back in. Even though the pass has not been open for years, it still remains a good cut back into the flats behind Mustang Island. On the Gulf side, the jetties built to protect the Fish Pass are a popular spot for fishing the surf.
