Often referred to by locals as Cummings Cut, the Morris and Cummings Cut starts in the southern part of Redfish Bay and runs north under Hwy 361 meandering its way to Aransas Bay through Corpus Christi Bayou. In addition to being a the main north south thoroughfare through Redfish Bay, the variety of structure along its path offers access to virtually all of the game fish available in the Texas Coastal Bend. Fish the deep holes, edges and nearby flats for trout and on the north end, explore the shorelines and reefs that are next to it for redfish and flounder. Its depth also makes it a prime congregation spot for fish during the colder winter months.
The edges of the cut go from channel depth to almost nothing in many places. This is particularly true north of Hwy 361. Extreme care should be exercised when running Cummings Cut to stay in the channel. The channel has many bends and groundings are common.
