Home to the Padre Island National Seashore and its miles of sandy beaches, surf fishing is often the first thought for anglers planning a trip to North Padre Island. While its world class surf fishing opportunities are abundant, local anglers know North Padre Island as a jumping off place for the incredible fishing in the Upper Laguna Madre and the southern portion of Corpus Christi Bay as well.
While shark, redfish and trout are targeted in the surf, the back waters of the Upper Laguna Madre offer excellent trout, redfish, flounder and black drum action year round. Protected waters abound, making this fishery accessible in most winds. Good access points for waders and kayakers give virtually anyone wanting to fish the area good opportunities for catching game fish around North Padre Island.
With the opening of Packery Channel at the north end of Padre Island, the island community has also reemerged as a safe port for boats heading offshore to fish the Gulf of Mexico.
